The Give1Hour project was aimed at encouraging public participation and engagement with local heritage. This was done by raising the profile of volunteers within the county and providing a targeted volunteer recruitment drive for the county in partnership with local and national volunteer bureaus. Five Community Heritage Days were organised in public locations to develop working partnerships between groups of museums and other heritage providers.
The key piece of work was a county-wide survey of 42 museums giving valuable demographics and data on volunteering for the county for the first time. The resulting skills analyses and report was used to lever additional funding for volunteer projects as well as plan future training and project work and advocate to stakeholders the importance of volunteering.
